Lancaster County’s Physician Leadership Team mobilized their community operations team, workgroups and physician recruitment effort on October 25. (More photos on Page 2.)

North Carolina Association for Healthcare Access (NCAHA) Kick-Off

With seed funding from the State Legislature and cooperation from the State Medical Society and Office of Rural Health, ten communities are taking Project Access statewide in North Carolina. There will be two tracks—one for new communities and one for established sites as well as state and national advocacy discussions. Hot Off The Press--INSURERS' PLAN AIMS TO COVER UNINSURED

Left: "I want a referral system where it is as easy for me to see uninsured patients as it is to see those with insurance," says Dr. Bret Daniels, Twin Oaks Family Practice. Like most private physicians, Dr. Daniels already sees uninsured patients but is frustrated when they can’t easily access other charity care programs and services. Dr. Daniels is the leadership team liaison to the medical care coordination workgroup.


Right: "Project Access should benefit all partners," says Dr. William Fife, Medical Director for SouthEast Lancaster Health Services. Dr. Fife designed a promotional power point inviting collaboration to assure the initiative benefits hospitals, clinics, physicians and especially patients. He is the physician leadership team liaison the hospital care coordination workgroup.

Left: Dr. Joseph Meek, former Dean, University of Kansas School of Medicine, Wichita, and leader in Wichita’s Project Access, emphasized physician ownership. "With ownership comes responsibility," he declared. Dr. Meek has also chaired both his local and state medical society boards.

Center: Dr. Colleen Kayden, Pharmacist, believes her county pharmacists’ association "Can come up with a creative way to support Project Access more cost effectively." She is co-chairing the pharmacy workgroup with Dr. Chip Meshon, medical director for the Water Street Rescue Mission.

Right: Ms. Rae Bond, Executive Director, Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society, coached the physician leadership team as it mobilized an operations council and workgroups for physician recruitment, hospital care, medical care, pharmacy, evaluation, marketing and MIS on October 25, 2006.
